Foundations
Foundations Level consists of the following papers:
- FA1 Recording Financial Transactions: Students will be taught the basics of creating and documenting financial records, starting from the initial documents through ledger transactions until the trial balance phase. The course will also include essential banking procedures related to bookkeeping, managing and reconciling cash and petty cash records, journal preparation, control account management, and the identification and rectification of errors.
- MA1 Management Information: Students are presented with fundamental costing principles, techniques, and the instruments for applying them. The curriculum begins by introducing business organizations and the distinct role of a management accountant within the organization. The subsequent section covers cost classification, followed by the identification of information sources and coding to ensure accurate cost classification. The curriculum then presents basic methods for cost recording and ultimately introduces students to spreadsheets as a crucial tool in supporting cost and management accounting.
- FA2 Maintaining Financial Records:
Students are introduced to the context and purpose of maintaining financial records in relation to account preparation. The curriculum then focuses extensively on the double-entry system, recording, processing, and reporting business transactions and events, including the specific accounting for non-current assets. The curriculum includes the use of the extended trial balance and methods for identifying and correcting errors, such as reconciling control accounts and posting period-end adjustments. Additionally, it covers the preparation of final accounts for sole traders and partnerships.
- MA2 Maintaining Costs and Finance: Students are introduced to costing, financing principles, and management accounting techniques to make and support decisions. The curriculum begins by clearly distinguishing management information from financial accounting information. It then covers recording costs, various costing techniques, management accounting in decision-making, and introduces cash management for planning.
Applied Knowledge
Applied Knowledge level consists of the following papers:
- FBT Business and Technology: The syllabus introduces students to the business, its purpose, stakeholders, rights, and responsibilities, and external influences. It covers corporate governance, accounting roles, financial reporting, assurance, control, compliance, financial systems, and financial technology. Key leadership, management, and people issues are also discussed. The final section emphasizes the importance of professional ethics and values in business behavior at all levels.
- FMA Management Accounting: FMA teaches students management accounting, including data sources, statistical techniques, cost accounting, budgeting, standard costing, variance analysis, and performance measurement. It covers essential tools for planning and controlling business activities, as well as measuring and monitoring organizational performance.
- FFA Financial Accounting: This module introduces students to the regulatory framework for accounts preparation, drafting financial statements, recording, processing, and reporting business transactions. It covers trial balance, error identification, and financial statement preparation for incorporated and unincorporated entities. Students will interpret and prepare simple consolidated financial statements.
CAT Specialized Modules
This Level consist of the following 3 papers. Students are to take only 2 papers out of the provided 3 options:
- Foundation in Taxation: This module introduces students to the regulatory framework for accounts preparation, focuses on drafting financial statements, recording, processing, and reporting business transactions, using trial balances, and correcting errors. Students learn to interpret financial statements and prepare consolidated financial statements for incorporated and unincorporated entities.
- Foundation in Audit: The FAU syllabus covers audit nature, purpose, duties, and regulations, covering audit planning, risk assessment, internal control recording, control tests, audit evidence, substantive procedures, and audit completion, including the auditor’s report.
- Foundation in Financial Management:Students will be instructed in several key aspects of financial management. They will grasp and apply the principles of working capital management and utilize various accounting techniques to predict cash flows within the organization. Moreover, they will outline methods and procedures for managing cash balances and understand the principles involved in making medium to long-term financing decisions, as well as capital investment decisions. Additionally, they will learn about credit management methods and procedures. The course will also focus on demonstrating employability and technology skills.
Rules and conditions to be followed to undergo the CAT papers:
➠ The CAT Qualification consists of nine exams and a professional ethics module.
➠ As you progress through the qualification, you can achieve certificates and diplomas.
➠ It serves as a stepping stone to the ACCA Qualification, providing various opportunities.
➠ There is an entry point for everyone, and no formal qualifications are required to begin.
➠ To obtain the CAT Qualification, you must complete seven Foundations in Accountancy exams and two additional specialist options awards.
➠ You also need to complete the Foundations in Professionalism module and one year of relevant work experience.
➠ Depending on your existing qualifications, you may receive exemptions from some exams.
